Playing Standards

PE rehearsalOur aim is to perform music in public concerts.

The music is challenging, so, as a guide, this group is for Grade 5/6 players upwards. But please don't be over modest, if you are around that level and want to come and give it a try you will be made very welcome!
  • We do not hold auditions, but players do need to be reliable!
  • If you are interested in joining please do contact us

Our philosophy is to be supportive of each other and organise ourselves without hierarchy. We spend much longer learning pieces than other orchestras because we have a range of skills and we analyse the music in a lot of detail.

The end product is always to a very high standard and our concerts are well attended and very successful.

Concert July 2011Concerts

Public concerts are given at the end of each term. These usually form part of the main ELLSO end of term concert.

We also present our own independent concerts each year.

Background

Our Performance Ensemble began as an off-shoot of East London Late Starters Orchestra (ELLSO) , the very successful string teaching orchestra.

ELLSO started over 25 years ago and runs a unique Saturday morning learning programme.

Performance Ensemble is still part of ELLSO, and there are a number of  wider opportunities for amateur musicians organised by the group.

Costs

  • The subscriptions are £80 per term (concessions available)
  • There is an additional annual £15.00
ELLSO membership fee (strings only), for which you will be kept informed of ELLSO activities and other related events
  • Wind players are exempt from paying the ELLSO membership fee because all other ELLSO activities are for strings only
